About

Hebridean Solace is an inspirational story of hope, courage and faith in the face of immense adversity.

Mairi MacBride was born on the Scottish island of Mull in 1900 and died in 1980. She was diagnosed with cancer on four separate occasions: the first time in 1950 and the last, twenty-five years later at the age of seventy-five.

Mairi faced her diagnosis with grace and dignity, convinced that God had spared her for a purpose—‘to put down on paper my experiences of living with cancer that other sufferers might have the courage to face what has to be faced.’

Through her writing, she hoped to give courage to other cancer sufferers and this short book is a beautiful testament to her story.

Told simply, this short book is a work of great beauty.

Praise for this book

This book is a gem and a little masterpiece. I feel sure it will bring comfort to many who are in the throes of cancer. But more than that, I think it will prove helpful by virtue of the amazing person Mairi was. Strong, able to be given the news that she had cancer but also to live with her fears and still do something extremely positive with her life. Despite the hardships and severity of the treatments, she still kept her faith in God and was rewarded in the most extraordinary and serendipitous of ways. I hope this little piece of Hebridean Solace reaches as many people as possible. Just as Mairi touched and influenced so many people in life, she will touch and influence even more in her new life.
